First Lieutenant Jeffrey J. Kaylor of Clifton, Virginia attended Union Mill Elementary and Rocky Run Middle, before graduating from Centreville High School in 1997, where he was a middle linebacker for the varsity football team. Jeff loved his high school years and he earned the respect of his teachers and his peers alike. He was a responsible student with a perfect attendance and a good attitude. He then graduated in 2001 from Virginia Tech’s Cadet Corps, earning a B.S. in Management Science and Information Technology. He became a cadet Army battalion commander and was a three year Army ROTC scholarship recipient. It was there that he met his future wife, Jenna, and the couple married just a few weeks before shipping out to Kuwait. Upon graduation in 2001, he was commissioned an Army Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. He then attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In the Spring of 2002, he was assigned to 1st/39th Artillery Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he served as a platoon leader. At the time of Jeff’s death, his wife, Jenna, was serving in the United States Army in Kuwait as a 1st Lieutenant. His Awards and Decorations include, Army Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal and he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. A bronze plaque hangs in the lobby outside the auditorium at Centreville High School in honor of Jeff.
