Lance Cpl. Michael G. Plank of Cameron Mills, New York attended Elkland High School for his senior year, graduating in 2004. He and his two brothers grew up hunting and fishing in the areas of Cameron Mills and Rathbone and Michael expressed a desire to someday build a house where he had spent so much of his time growing up. He was a member of the Cowanesque Valley Rod and Gun Club. As a Marine, he began his first tour of duty in March of 2010 to Afghanistan and was scheduled to return home the following fall. He died at age 25 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He leaves his brothers, Jerry and Dominic, his father, Gerald Plank, and his mother and stepfather, Kathleen and Butch Parker.
